Creating a Custom Piece At Goodman's Jewelers
Are you day dreaming about a piece of jewelry that doesn’t yet exist?
Are you looking for your forever ring, but like different elements of multiple pieces and wish you could just put them all together? You can have just that when you work with our seasoned, GIA trained, no commissioned designers.
With your guidance & input and our experience, we will create something spectacular together that reflects who you are and tells your story. Now without further adieu, let’s walk through the steps of creating your first custom piece.

Step One: The Conversation
This is where your story begins & the magic starts to happen. You don’t need an appointment to come and see us so stroll in at your convenience. You’ll be greeted with a warm smile & invited to sit down with one of our experienced designers—Kristin, John, or Susan, & on special occasion, the man we call “The Wizard” our Goldsmith Jeremy.
We’ll start by simply listening to you. We want to hear your likes, dislikes, and must haves. All of these things are incredibly important when designing a custom piece of jewelry. We believe a big part of creating is the ability to listen & we excel at that. During this consultation, we’ll discuss design ideas, show examples of different elements, materials, & gemstones, do some sketching, ask questions about your life and lifestyle, and probably share some stories, laugh, and get to know you because you’re what’s important.

Step Two: Choosing the Method
Now that we have a good vision of what you’d like, it’s time for you to get excited! Based on all the information we have, we’ll carefully decided which one of three methods is best to bring your
vision to life:
• CAD Design: This is where we create a detailed 3D model for you. You can view your custom design from every angle and we can discuss all of the details. This is the closest thing to seeing your design as a finished piece. We can revise the CAD or make any adjustments you’d like. We can have a wax model made for you to view and hold in person to make sure every detail is as you want it.
• Hand Carved Wax Carving: Our seasoned, award-winning Goldsmith will skillfully carve your design by hand, ensuring every detail is meticulously crafted. We will then invite you in again to meet with us and view your very own wax model. Once we have your stamp of approval the piece is cast, stones are set, and the piece is fine tuned and finished with great precision. We then call you to come in for the big reveal! The look on your face when you see your design for the very first time is our absolute favorite!
• Hand Fabrication: This technique lends itself well to pieces that are more minimalist (clean lines) by design. Our Goldsmith will take new elements; components may be made by hand or modified to create your one of a kind design.
Whichever method is used, the finished product is sure to be a showstopper.
Step Three: Design Execution
After we have your seal of approval, we will proceed with the chosen method for creation. Throughout the process, you’ll be kept in the loop with regular updates, including photos and videos whenever possible. Watching the transformation of your ideas into a tangible piece of art is exciting and so rewarding.
