There was something about her soft voice that would comfort you when you had a scraped knee or a bump on your head. When she would say, “come to Mom”, and then hold you in her arms, it was like permission to release your emotions and start to feel better. Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914. Traditionally flowers and gifts are given to celebrate how much our mothers do for us.
